“Here’s”:http://www.songtapper.com/s/tappingmain.bin?dotap=1 an interesting applet I found today. It matches a rhythm tapped out on the keyboard to one of over 18000 (!) songs in it’s database.
Also, “another page”:http://cgi.sfu.ca/~gpeters/tapper/tapper.cgi with more info on how it works. Apparently it correctly identifies the song or places it in the top 10 possibilities well over 2/3 of the time. I can vouch for the fact that it returned the correct song all 3 times that I’ve tried it so far.
I’m not sure how this would be especially useful of itself, although apparently accuracy does vary somewhat based on a person’s self-described musical ability, so maybe there’s an application in there somewhere. Either way it’s a pretty neat demonstration of AI technology.
