A Patriotic Party

We decided to throw a patriotic party–not on the 4th of July. Everyone has plans for the 4th, right? So we planned it for as soon after the Fourth as we could. We invited some friends from church, and decked the kitchen (and ourselves) in red, white, and blue.

Over the doorway hung a star garland that was easy (and free!) to make. The paper stars are sewn together which created a cute look. I stuck some little flags in empty soda bottles for quick centerpieces. The sunflowers popped against the red checked tablecloth (that I found for 60% off at Hobby Lobby!). Much thanks to the Pioneer Woman for the sunflower idea. They really are the best flowers for the 4th.

Our menu was pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, grilled corn on the cob, chips & pretzels with raspberry crisp and vanilla ice cream for dessert. By the way, Stephen is a great team player when it comes to prepping for guests. He shucked the corn on the back porch while watching our little farm boy play in the yard. We had a great time hanging with friends!
